HIV/AIDS Awareness Network (HAAN)
Board Members:
Board Chairman
John May currently serves as the HIV/AIDS Awareness Network’s
(HAAN) Vice Chairman and has been a leader over the years in planning and
coordinating many of the Networks events. He is an original founder of this
organization and is a charter board member of the HIV/AIDS Awareness Network.
During his 6-year service as a board member, John has also served as the Board
Chairman. He currently works as the HIV/AIDS Coordinator for the Indian River County
Health Department since November 1999. When asked what prompted him to get
involved in 1999 as a leader in HIV advocacy, education, and testing within the community John said, “Silence was death in the Black community and I felt I needed to do something
so that it would not be kept silent and lead to more deaths. I wanted to
encourage the community to get educated, tested, treated, and involved. It was
time that those affected would realize that caring more about themselves was
more important than about the ones they come in contact with.”

Social Media Manager / Website Design and Development
Andrea Naylor currently works as the HIV/AIDS Awareness Network (HAAN) Social Media Advisor and has been a member on the board since 2011. Andrea first got involved with HAAN in 2010, after an invitation to do some HIV testing at a local Network event. As an Epidemiologist, she partnered with HAAN to plan and coordinate several outreach and testing events within the community. Her passion for education and reducing the stigma surrounding HIV, stems from time she spent in Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer. It was during that time that she realized how powerful of a tool education can be, especially among the youth. Her background in public health has afforded her the opportunity to travel for research and work to Africa and Central America. Andrea works remotely as the Social Media Manager and currently resides in Door County, Wisconsin.
